Isaiah 5

Isa 5:1 Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:

God has planted a vineyard which is Israel.

Isa 5:2 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

God protected Israel from it’s adversaries and also removed the stumbling blocks that might spoil it’s fruitfulness.  Just as good fruit can be expected from choice vines, so the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob could be expected to become a blessing in the earth to the nations and David should be king over them.  He sent among them the best examples and provided watchful caretakers.  He had expectation of very good results but it rendered a rotten and spoiled people instead.

Isa 5:3-4 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.  4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

wild grapes – poison / wild berries

Was there a lacking on the part of God which is the reason for His vineyard to bring forth wild (poison, unfit) fruit?  Of course not!  That vineyard was given every advantage necessary in order to thrive and produce good fruit.  Jerusalem (Judah) was given charge of the vineyard and God requests from them an explanation for the failure of it at their hands whether and how it be His shortcomings.  Remember that, many years earlier, the people of Israel rejected the judgement of their heavenly Father in favor of earthly servitude and flesh and blood kings . 1 Sam 8:5-7

Isa 5:5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

God will remove the protections He as provided for this people and the nations will spoil and oppress them without His intervention.

Isa 5:6 And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

He will not attend to the chosen people with His righteousness and mercy, but will allow the unjust and evil to overtake the land.  All life requires Truth and mercy just as it requires water in order to survive.

Isa 5:7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

The kings of Judah who lead the whole house of Israel have led it to destruction and made it desolate through selfishness, greed and lack of justice.  Think of the ‘justice system’ that we have today for an example corruption, fraud, and confusion that comes from absence of Truth.

Isa 5:8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!

placed alone – set apart?, established separate?

Many interesting and foundational discoveries are unavailable for understanding without having read and reasonably understood the Bible from the beginning.  In order to understand these and many other chapters and verses, you need to realize that the tribe of Judah was appointed by God to reign over the other twelve tribes of Israel and execute justice and judgement among the people.

Woe to those who like to consolidate and centralize everything.  And yet they separate and establish for themselves a personal and private estate to their exclusive benefit.

Israel is like a vast vineyard where all of the attention and resources belonging to the many vines are reapportioned to a few vines to the exclusion of the rest of the vineyard.  Where waters and fertile grounds are diverted from them and allotted to a few ‘privileged vines’.  Where to whole vineyard was capable of thriving but never the less, everything was redistributed to the privileged few and the result is little production and fruitfulness.

Why should your intentions be fixated toward your own personal gain without consideration for the well being of others.  Is there not a direction that can be to the mutual benefit of others beside yourself?  Amassing wealth is not in and of itself a vain pursuit but amassing wealth to the benefit of only yourself or to the unthoughtful detriment of your brother is vanity, even evil.

Isa 5:9-10 In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant. 10 Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah.

The once productive nation will become a struggling nation.  It will yield but a fraction of it’s potential.

Isa 5:11-12 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! 12 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

They offer no thought for the LORD and the hand that He has in their livelihood.  From the beginning of the day, their efforts are toward no righteous purpose.  By the end of the day (the end of days) they are full of their own pride and strong delusion.

Isa 5:13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.

knowledge – awareness, understanding

There is no wisdom among the people (lacking awareness, Truth) and their leaders.  The honorable men are worked as slaves.  Their high leaders are devoid of justice.  And the whole house is desolate of justice and truth.  This message is NO less valid for us today!  Look around you and see the truth of the matter (if you still have judgement left to identify it clearly for what it is).

Isa 5:14-17 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it. 15 And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled: 16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness. 17 Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.

Hell is making plenty of room for its ever increasing attendance.  It pays to be a righteous person.  Don’t believe it?  Ask the souls when they are swallowed up in hell if it pays to be righteous.  While they are sinking in hell, the righteousness of the LORD will be exalted.  He will restore judgement to its rightful heirs.

Isa 5:18-19 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: 19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

Do they not even realize that they are themselves laboring in sin and iniquity while they call upon the arrival of Holy One of Israel to administer justice?  (Or worse, are they being arrogant and taunting God?)

Isa 5:20-21 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Think criminals, deceivers, university professors, and millennials and you will get a good idea for who is being addressed in this verse.

Anyone calling evil good and vice versa, is either gravely misled/ignorant or intentionally deceptive.  Either way, the truth is not in them.  People who are without truth will have no problem convincing themselves that they are wise and will not let the facts get in the way of their beliefs/ideals.

Isa 5:22-25 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: 23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! 24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25 Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Let he who is in high position be warned, and all those in authority not to participate in the delusion that inevitably comes with power, who judge according to self gain and do injustice to the righteous.  For their dismissal of the law and justice and truth, shall they be swept away.  Even today they witness the cries of the oppressed and yet exercise injustice.  If you don’t see this in our own country today then it is because you are an integral part of its destruction.

Isa 5:26 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly: 27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken: 28 Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

God will give the signal to the distant kingdoms and the armies of the conquerors and call them to Israel.  They will take full advantage of slumbering weakness of the vineyard.

Isa 5:29 Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

Israel will be a prey safely delivered in to the hand of the armies which God will bring against them.  Assyria and Babylon will soon fall upon them.

Isa 5:30 And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

They will be engulfed and swept away like a large wave from the sea.  The light of Truth and Judgement will be denied from the people along with the favor of our Father.

Judah was appointed by God the privilege/task of reigning over the other twelve tribes of Israel. (see Gen. 49)  If you don’t understand or didn’t know that then consider reading the Bible starting from the beginning so that you can establish a basic level knowledge of who Israel is, their history, God’s covenants with them, what was promised them, and what their blessings are …etc.

Not so many years after these prophecies and this song, the house of Israel (ten northern tribes) was taken away into Assyria.  A few years later, most of Judah was removed as well.  These have since been scattered among the nations and in large part form the basis of the Christian nations today.  Whatever blessings they were promised, they retain.  Whatever destiny they were to fulfill they will yet fulfill or have already fulfilled.

God does not have to repeal His unconditional promises.  In fact, to think He would do so would be to deny His faithfulness to His own Word (to deny that Truth exists!).

In the age of Grace, these nations have prospered by and large.  Having grown fat on the blessings of God they are still revealing their stiff necked traits.  Taking for granted their blessings, they haven’t protected them.  Again, the leaders of the nations have corrupted the laws of our Father and twisted the Truth to the point where we must surely be near the end of days.  Our president today calls upon the self proclaimed world authority, the united nations, for guidance and judgement of God’s apathetic people.  Think about that until it sets in.

Judges, college profs, secularists, socialists: beware, this song is a warning to remind us of the outcome of your ideals and your efforts.

Would God Quit Speaking?

Who with us would willfully choose to live their life in complete darkness and isolation?  Who would reject their eyesight along with their hearing if given the opportunity?  What if you awakened to find there was no one around, nothing to see, no stray light at all and absolute silence as well.   Would you remain in place hoping for some sort of rescue or would you try to venture off into the total silent blackness hoping to find a light somewhere in the distance?

After a what seems like a short while, you’re not only starving to death, but your tongue is sticking to your cheeks because of thirst.  The thought of a perpetual unconsciousness (the secular conception of death) may even seem to be preferable to the current realization of nothingness you would be existing in.  A couple of weeks later (if your mind survives it that long) you begin to realize that the death of consciousness which you have begun to long for has escaped you.

In the long darkness of many months you begin to wonder if you can even trust your feet when they tell you that you are still venturing onward through the darkness.  Maybe you just thought you were walking.  Maybe, in reality, your are just a head sitting on a dark shelf in the middle of nothing.  Any light, even the dimmest candle from a great distance would seem bright in this place.  After many days (let alone months or years) of experiencing that, even the slightest glow would bring comfort and hope.  Maybe that was what it was like at the beginning of the first day. (Genesis 1:2-3)

If you ever found yourself in a hell like that, what would you be desiring / seeking while you were there?  What would you be hoping?  Who would knowingly go to that kind of place?

I can only imagine what it must have been like on Day #1 at the moment when God spoke and suddenly something meaningful illuminated the darkness and lit a path out of confusion, that moment when Truth made Himself evident to the rest of creation like a savior, like a redeemer. (Genesis 1:2-3, John 1:1-7)

And now, concerning that dark hell, who would you prevent from going there and what lengths would you go to keep them from that fate?  How long would you let them wander off in that direction, themselves unaware of what lay ahead of them.   How would you go about it and what would you tell them?

There is a reason why we shouldn’t place our lamps under a bushel.  It’s the same reason that you waited on a light during the dark journey mentioned above.  There are those out there who need the same things that you (now rescued) once needed.  If that isolated emptiness were what the future holds for those that don’t seek Truth then wouldn’t you want someone to wake you up from that eventual fate.  How many people do you know that you would be willing to see suffer an existence like that?

Truth remains unchanging and reliable.  It exists in the form of the Word of God which is Jesus Christ.  That means that it has always been there and will always be there.  The bearers of it’s light in these last days are few and far between and they bring an immeasurable amount of comfort to those in what seems to be an ever darkening world.

I don’t think that it is a matter of whether God would quit speaking, but rather whether we continue to have eyes to see and ears to hear His Truth?  A teacher used to say at the end of every get together:

“Every day in His Word is a good day, even with trouble.  Jesus is the living Word.”

That is true.  So long as God speaks, there is hope for all who are able to see and hear it.  Jesus is literally the Word of God and therefore He is the light and comfort in a distracting and confusing world.

Mat 7:12-14  Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

bratboot Every day that God is with us is a good day for sure.

Isaiah 4

Isa 4:1  And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

“And in that day…” – the days spoken of in the previous chapter.

“…seven women…” – the word used here is women, virgins is not used here

Those (people / churches) who were not faithful to the Truth (the Lord, Jesus) will want to attach themselves to (to be associated with) those righteous ones who have found acceptance with our Father and have kept to the Truth.  Seeking to have their reproach taken away, it is evident that they self identify as reproachful / unfaithful / illegitimate.

Isa 4:2  In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.

Those who placed their reliance on the Branch of the LORD (the Truth, Jesus) will be prominent and highly regarded in world full of inconsequential and petty pursuits.  The fruitfulness of the chosen people (the delivered of all Israel) shall be very evident, excellent, majestic, beautiful.

Isa 4:3  And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:

left – (Shaw-ar) left, remain, reserve (not the same word as ‘remaineth’ used later in the verse but with a similar meaning)

Zion – conspicuous, guidepost, monument, waymark

remaineth – (yaw-thar) left behind, preserved, remain, reserve

Those who trust and remain in Christ (Truth), and they who seek the will of God shall be considered holy, even those among the preserved of Jerusalem all who are written in the book of life.

Isa 4:4  When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

There will be among the Christians a purification and a washing away of their sins.  And among Jerusalem, there will be some whose bloody hands will be cleansed by Jesus.  And through trials and purification and testing and judgement, the elect of our Father will be delivered. For some, the trials and tribulations are what it will take to awaken them to the reality of the existence of God and the mercy He has on those who trust (faithe) in His Word.

Isa 4:5  And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.

Mount Zion is the faithful Christians, the followers of Jesus who are not swept away in the distractions of the world.  All those who reside in Zion will be provided a covering and protection by day, and a guiding and warm Light by night.  And upon all the glory (fruitful ones) a defence (covering, canopy).

Isa 4:6  And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

shadow – shade

heat – heat, drought, desolation

covert – refuge, concealing

storm –  storm, flood, overflowing, tempest

Those who cannot understand the Truth (or reject it) are in sleepy vanity.  They live what seems to be a comfortable and meaningful existence as they drift off into the distractions of this world and the pointlessness of it’s values.  But for those who seek reliable wisdom, our Father will always provide a resting place and protection for His people.

_______________________________________

All things which are of the world will pass, even the secularists understand this.  So ask yourself, “What value is there in life then?”  Well, what would God say is of value?  The things which never pass are of value.  God’s Word will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35)  God’s Word is Truth. (John 14:6)  Therefore, the Truth will never pass away.  Since the Truth will never pass away, then the Truth is valuable and also serves as a reliable foundation.  And according to God’s Word, actions that you take which are based upon His Word result in grace (unmerited favor).  Just so we’re clear, actions that you take based upon Truth (God’s Word) are not in vain but are recognized as valuable, because God recognizes His Word as valuable and True.  What better way to please our Father that to seek the Truth of His Word.

Read Luke 11.  That is God’s Word!  Take the advice of those passages and pray for understanding of His Word and act on that prayer by continuing to read His Word and seeking understanding of it.  If you do that, that is an act of Faith.  And with Faith comes Grace.  Pray for a quickened spirit and spread the Truth to your brothers and sisters who are stranded in the darkness.  The Truth is eternal.  Help guide someone to it to the extent you are able.  You’ll have a companion forever along with anyone that they may be able to reach.

Seek Truth

Isaiah 3

Isa 3:1 For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,

The message continues about/against Judah and Jerusalem.

God is taking away those things which Jerusalem and Judah need to keep themselves propped up, their support, that which sustains them.

Isa 3:2-3 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, 3 The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

God will take away from them the wisest, most capable, competent and strongest among them.

Isa 3:4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

Instead of being shepherded, the sheep must bear the load of the immature and self-serving ‘leaders’.

Children and babes are self concerned and actually require caretakers to sustain them and their lifestyles.  Sounds just like the leaders we have today, immature, full of themselves and creating a great load for the sheep to bear.

Isa 3:5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.

The oppression is at the hands of not only the leaders but even their fellow neighbors.

When people don’t support themselves, you must become their support or allow them to suffer for lack of their own efforts to thrive.  The leaders themselves are the same self-serving types that won’t support themselves and expect others to do so.  They themselves often come from that same class.  They create laws that force the honorable of the land to bear the load of those who refuse to contribute the minimal effort.  This creates a base of support amongst the freeloaders.  What an accurate description our situation in the land today.  You’d be hard pressed to better describe America’s current leadership and situation.

Isa 3:6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:

clothing – wrapper, mantle, covering garment, garments, clothes, raiment, a cloth

The unaccountable ones will want those who maintain a state of preparedness to remedy all of their ills.  They want others to take on the responsibilities necessary for their survival/well being.  People in general place their trust in their fellow men (brothers) and not their Father in heaven to lean upon for their support.  This is no less true in the churches today.  They assign the pastor/minister to lead them and be responsible for their well being.  They don’t even seek their obvious Father who created them for their needs.

Isa 3:7-8 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people. 8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

The whole house is made empty by their actions (or lack thereof).  Even the usually reliable sources are depleted after a time.  This is a condition which cannot be repaired with material provisions anyway since the cause which created it is not a material cause but rather failure of character and morals, a failure of Faith.  God’s people are become repulsive to His eyes of  and don’t represent His glory among people.

Isa 3:9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

Their own appearance, their looks and actions, define their condition in the same manner as Sodom made their evil obvious to all with eyes to see and ears to hear.  With awareness, they recompense themselves with evil just as Ferguson and Gomorrah.

Isa 3:10-11 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. 11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

Even in the bad times of the kingdom of Judah, God recognizes and protects the faithful among His people.  The wicked are going to receive even that wickedness which they dealt out.  Righteous and wicked, each reaping what they have sown.

Isa 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

children – sucklings, little ones

Those who should be led are instead occupying the roles of leadership.

People whose characteristics are those of children and women are placed in roles of authority.  Their administration results in the actual destruction/outright intolerance of the very things which might set them back on path.  Children and women are led by their desires, what seems right to the heart.

Isa 3:13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

standeth up -(nâtsab) to stand, take a stand, establish

plead – to strive, contend, contend against

standeth – (âmad) stand, remain, endure, take a stand

Isa 3:14-15 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.  5 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

ancients – old, elders, those having authority

The abundance of the blessings of the vineyard of God have been ‘redistributed’ into the store houses of the oppressors.  Again, they are self adsorbed, self-worshiping, self-serving people.  How do they intend for God to interpret there spoiling of the people.  What is the message that they are delivering to He who created the universe and all living creatures within it?  Why do you find it necessary to thresh the people and grind the spirit out of them?  Justify the purpose in this!

Isa 3:16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

Also, the attitudes of the people of Israel are as of seekers seeking the desire of their eyes while holding themselves in great esteem and expecting more than what they merit receiving.   They put forth quite the exterior display.

Isa 3:17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts. 8 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, 19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, 20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, 21 The rings, and nose jewels, 22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, 23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails. 24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

discover – empty, pour out, uncover

bravery – beauty, bravery, majesty

tinkling ornaments – fetters, anklets

caul – interweaving, netting (for the hair)

tire – round pendant, ornament about the neck

muffler – long veil

tablets – hangings?

wimples – wide cloaks

glasses – mirrors

rent – rope

stomacher – fanciful dress?

burning – brand, scar

They will get to measure their standing without God’s support, without all of their blessings and their coverings, without the hedge of God about them.  Instead of the appearance of honor and justice, the will have the appearance of a woman who has been abused.

Isa 3:25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

Without the hand of God in their favor, they will lose their vineyard, their land.  The nations will take advantage of open defenses and Israel will face war.  They’ll waste their men in battle and be at the mercy of other nations and other kings.

__________________________________________________________

Again, the faith of the people is misplaced (in worldly things and in men) and the patience of our Father is nearing an end.

Israel was conquered and taken into captivity in Assyria and Judah and Jerusalem were conquered and carried into captivity in Assyria and Babylon.  A period of servitude is just what they bargained for all along.

Place your faith in God and you will receive what is in the will of God.  Place your faith in men and you will receive whatever their will is for you.  The smooth talking ‘bait and switch’ artists that lead our world today are placing an ever increasing demand upon the people just as warned against by prophecy.  Soon enough they will have substantially accomplished the redistribution of wealth into the houses of the oppressors (themselves) and freeloaders/wards of the state (again, themselves).

Yes, this prophecy is directed at Jerusalem and the House of Judah in the days of Isaiah, but I think the prophecy is equally valid, if not more so for Israel today and the world in general.

Love Truth

Isaiah 2

Isa 2:1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

word – speech, word, matter, utterance

As the previous chapter, this matter is concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

Isa 2:2-3 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.  And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

flow – flow, assemble

This matter is concerning the last days.  In the time of this ‘word’ nations will exalt and flow into Zion/Jerusalem for instruction and Truth and Light(Christ, the Word of the LORD).  The LORD’s house will be set up at the head of all of the mountains(nations) of the world.  During the thousand year period of peace after Christ’s return, all nations will honor our Father and His law and Word (Rev. 20).

Isa 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

The days of warring nations will come to a permanent end.  Nations war when they intend to impose or defend their will upon other people.  When a righteous will is recognized, what use is there for warring and armies?  The efforts of men toward their fellow man will be aimed at fruitful ends instead of destructive self serving ends.

Isa 2:5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Knowing that this is the destiny of the house of Jacob, why delay seeking out the LORD.  Is there something to be missed by not seeking the Truth right away?

Isa 2:6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.

Yet Israel adopted the ways of the nations and looked to them for leadership and pleasure.  They are not ashamed of their illegitimate works and behavior.  Therefore have they been forsaken by God.

Isa 2:7-8 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots: Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

They don’t value the creator of all creation and provider of all things.  Instead, they worship the corruption (rearrangement) of God’s creation into something vain/self-serving.

Isa 2:9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.

They bow their heads to vanities and created objects.  How ironic when they have our Father’s favor if only they will seek it.

Isa 2:10-11 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

They waste their efforts elevating themselves above things which have no future, things which do not represent anything eternal.  They play king of the hill, but a hill which has no future.

Isa 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

For what good/selfless purpose will a one man promote himself above his neighbor?

Isa 2:13-17 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,  And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,  And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall, And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures. And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

haughtiness – self elevation, self promotion

All of those things which man elevates and secures himself with will be of no help in the day of the LORD.  The haughty self-reliance of men will stripped away revealing their weakness/helplessness.

Isa 2:18-21 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.  And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.  In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;  To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

You have to wonder what they must be seeing/feeling/experiencing that would cause them to cast off everything they once considered of great value.  They actually prefer refuge in the most deadly places to be during an earthquake trying to flee in fear of the LORD.

This is similar to Revelation 6:15 when after the opening of the sixth seal there is a great earthquake and just before the sealing of the 144,000 from the tribes of Israel.

Isa 2:22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?

Would you run to the safety of the president of the United States, or to a senator for protection from the wrath of God during such a time?  Why then would anyone assign authority to any man when they could rely on Truth and place their Faith in the Word of God?

You really should ask yourself where you place your trust and your reliance at this moment and in the future.  The lesson of this chapter is valid for all those who would seek to live in a just world and not just for Judah and Jerusalem.  Nearly everyone is relying on established social constructs; governments of men, money and other material things, even their own ingenuity.  All of which are subject to failure at some point. Following the laws and rules of your country is not necessarily evil but eventually all establishments of men turn evil, it is the nature of men when they withdraw themselves from God’s will.  Don’t believe that?  Then why does your government legislate hundreds of thousands of laws and maintain countless angry Africanized/weaponized police forces that patrol the sheep today?  This isn’t necessary when people love the Lord with all their hearts and their neighbors as themselves.  Two simple rules are sufficient.

You have a covenant with your Father if you choose to accept it.  It doesn’t fail.  We had that at one point but decided to place our trust and reliance on men and materials.  All nations have been founded on these things and all will fall, just like every other nation before them.

How welcome you will be in the day that God returns His kingdom to the earth if you have placed your reliance and trust upon His Word.  He is Truth and Light and stands forever.
